Create 5 Social Videos in 5 Minutes by Mastering Filming "B-Roll" Footage

WHY YOU NEED ‘B-ROLL’ FOOTAGE — AND WHAT B-ROLL IS!

“B-roll” a fancy term for that footage you see in videos (it’s an old TV & movie term), it’s the ‘action’ like person working or being with their family or walking their dog.

If you pay close attention, it’s used in every news story as it helps further the story. When I was a National TV News producer, I came up with ideas for what b-roll to film and I directed people how to act and behave on camera.
You will use this footage a lot for your social media, it makes videos more visually interesting, shows people more about your life and offers a different perspective on who you are!

How to do it:
🪜Set up your phone on a tripod.

📐Place the tripod at an angle to you — not directly in front of your face. Do not look at the camera!

👀This gives the perception that the viewer is ‘watching you in action.’

⏰ Film for at least 10-20 seconds.

Do slightly different small actions so you have some slight variation in the footage.

1️⃣ example, for 1 clip type on your computer.

2️⃣ For another clip you can take notes in a journal.

3️⃣ Another clip, drink coffee and think deeply (or at least look like you are!)

Feel free to play around with speed to create additional visual interest!

Watch the video above to see it in action. Let me know what you'll be filming in your own life!!
