SHOULD YOU LAUNCH A PODCAST?
Podcasts can be a relatively inexpensive way to build your brand. However, promoting it and getting it to listeners will take time and work. Plus you absolutely need to be consistent to make it successful. So is it worth it? If you’re not a huge celebrity should you start a podcast?
I’ve executive produced video and podcast content for organizations, brands and professionals, ranging from PEOPLE Magazine, to realtors, lawyers and brands of all sizes and industries. I now host and executive produce Mom’s Exit Interview, a show that helps mom thrive without the 9-to-5 featuring entrepreneurs, consultants and more. My podcast has ranked in the Top 20 of Careers Podcasts in Apple Charts, I’ve gotten PR, landing press write-ups in major national outlets like Business Insider, I’ve been booked for paid speaking engagements, and been expanding my professional network. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS?
I always encourage my clients to write down their goals before we begin a project together. This clarity is a necessity. Some examples of goals can be to bring in clients, increase revenue, get press, have a more professional appearance, make better content or be more confident.
Writing down goals in advance keeps you focused and not distracted by unexpected disappointments, downticks (whether your follower count or listenership stalls) or ‘comparison’ culture. By comparison culture, I mean where you look at everyone else on social and decide they are successful and doing better than you and… you know the drill). Now onto the reasons why it’s a great ideas for your business to launch a podcast.
As a part of this, know your audience, identify your niche and have an idea of topics or themes to cover.

1-Expand your network
You will meet a lot of people - guests on your show and possibly hosts on other shows having you on. These will be natural conversations and allow for true networking, not the kind people grimace at, where you hold a warm drink in a sad conference room.
2-Showcase your authority in your field
Because podcasts are generally long you’ll be allowed more time to showcase your expertise and your personality. Podcasts are a very intimate medium so it’s a good way to build relationships with listeners.
You will also be creating assets for social media and those can keep spreading to people who aren’t listeners but cements your status as a person who know their area, and can lend their expertise.
3-Bring in leads
If your podcast is in your field (which most tend to be), you’ll be building your listener base from people interested in learning about your field. You’ll also be building a newsletter and social assets around this, thus creating a funnel for people who may want to work with you.
