Social media is a crucial element to growing your business and here are some insider secrets on how to find clients and sell your services or products on social media even if you hate selling!

I recently interviewed social media expert Shannon McKinstrie who says “I would not have a business without Instagram Stories.” In my business I advise people how to be awesome on-camera (for social media or press) and how to create  strong content ideas and strategy across digital - social media, blogs, PR, paid ads. Shannon and I had a great discussion. Here are some tips on how to get people to buy from you on social media even if you hate selling!

First, let’s talk Instagram. It is one of the most popular social media platforms and users spend 2 and half hours a day on it. How can you use Instagram to sell services or products? How can you create content that is relatable and grows your revenue, your client base and your followers?

TOP 5 SOCIAL MEDIA TIPS FOR BIZ OWNERS

  • Identify your goals - do you want to find client leads? Sell products?

  • Figure out how much time you can spend online - if you have 30 minutes a day or 4 hours a day, there is a way to grow on social media 

  • Choose how many times to post to social media and make a calendar - having a calendar keeps you consistent

  • Interview your past clients.. Understanding your clients’ issues or pain points can become social media content

  • Make behind the scenes content. People are really curious about other people’s lives and careers. Bringing people inside with behind the scenes video about how you make your product or the service you sell performs well and allows people to feel connected to you.

WHY BEHIND THE SCENES SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT IS SO IMPORTANT TO GROWING YOUR BUSINESS

Some more content ideas to get your creative ideas. Behind the scenes content is key. “Authenticity, authenticity, authenticity.” Because people have no idea what each other does in a day we have no clue! Show yourself putting the products in a box and mailing it. If you are an event, show how much work goes into putting a tablescape. We have no clue. We're fascinated.”

HOW TO USE LINKEDIN TO FIND CLIENTS AND LEADS

To grow your pool of clients or leads on LinkedIn you need to understand how to effectively create content for that platform. 

Here are some takeaways:

  1. Celebrate your successes - show raw video or photo content of you celebrating a recent win. Authentic raw content performs better- not ‘branded content’ (you know, the footage that looks too perfect)’

  2. Share your thoughts & opinions. Shannon says “Don't do how to’s on LinkedIn. Use it to position yourself  as a thought leader.”  

  3. Your personal story. Everyone has a story, what drives you? What made you start your business? Bring people into your WHY. It helps people connect better with you.
