What are Content Pillars & Why You Need Them

Content pillars have been a game-changer for my client’s content strategy! They’re not just some marketing buzzword—they’re the foundation of a cohesive social media & video strategy. Content pillars are the key themes I return to - and my clients return to - over and over. I use content pillars - also known as ‘content buckets’ - whether creating a video, a social post or a blog post. Content pillars help my clients and I stay consistent, build credibility, and connect with my audience in a meaningful way. For anyone looking to grow their influence, especially the thought leaders and professionals I coach, having solid content pillars is non-negotiable.

Without content pillars it becomes more time consuming to come up with good ideas and your content will havc no visible brand identity, values or narrative.

When I work with clients, I always emphasize the importance of a clear professional perspective—it’s your north star. Content pillars are an extension of that. They keep you focused on the topics that matter most to your audience and align with your expertise. For example, one of my clients teaches wealthy families about personal finance, so we built content pillars around generational wealth, financial planning, and investment strategies. I also like to sprinkle in a content pillar more related to their personal life. These pillars act as a filter, ensuring every piece of content adds value and supports their long-term goals. The more personal pillars help people relate to you on a different level.

The best part? Content pillars make your life easier by giving you a blueprint to repurpose your ideas. I’m all about maximizing content—turning a blog post into a video script, a podcast into a social post, or a gust interview into a Reel. This is where my video coaching comes in.
