I want to make more videos for my business but I’m not comfortable on camera. How do I get more confident on camera?

Whether you’re a consultant, real estate agent, founder of a company, if you want to grow your business and be seen as an expert, you need to be on camera. Easier said than done, here are some tips to break through your mental hurdles to feel confident on camera.

KIM RITTBERG’S PATCH METHOD TO PREPARE TO BE ON CAMERA

P - PREPARE

You cannot sound or be confident if you’re not prepared. It’s a recipe for fumbling and stumbling. Take any opportunity you can to practice public speaking, that can be a group meeting, a book club, an office meeting.

In preparing, prepare both your message but also your mindset. Cut through what is making you nervous or uncomfortable to be on camera.  Tap into your WHY. Why are you putting yourself out there? Why do you want to be on video? If you’re worried about being judged, honestly most people are busy living their own lives and figuring out their lunch order. Plus the phrase “your vibe attracts your tribe” is true.

A - AUTHENTIC

You need to be the best version of yourself, not a copy of someone else. Only certain people had access to get their message out (TV anchors, hosts). Now the standard is different, experts can be podcasters, creators, regular people with a strong knowledge of something specific.

T - TURN OFF DISTRACTIONS

When you’re about to start recording, turn off distractions and stay focused on the moment.

C - CONFIDENCE

To tap into your confidence, read your own resume, remember you are an expert. Put yourself in teacher mode not  in supermodel mode - don't think about how you look or sound. Focus on who you are teaching and helping.

H - HARNESS YOUR ENERGY

It is important to watch past videos of yourself and to be self-aware. Understand your natural energy, your natural speaking style and figure out how to improve.

For example, I am high energy, so I focus in leveling out my energy to get balanced before going on camera.

The very last trick is once you have belanced out your energy, listen to some upbeat music and raise your energy up as if you’re about to enter a great part. Make sure to smile, as that warmth can be seen on your face and biologically makes people feel welcome and not threatened, but also the warmth is exuded in your vocal chords.
