What Taylor Swift Eras Movie Can Teach You About Marketing and Public Speaking

I did it! I saw the Taylor Swift Eras movie. While I was singing and dancing with my kids in the theater, I was also jotting down notes. There were several things that I loved about the concert film, but specifically I was thinking about how you can apply it to your business - both lessons for public speaking and also for making social media and video content! Improve your social media marketing with these lessons from Taylor Swift!

From her high-energy, permanent smile and outfit changes, I thought about the way she connects with her fans, how she chooses her outfits and so should you: to feel like you! (did anyone else notice she had ballet slippers, and boots not necessarily stilettos!).

Connect with your audience

Taylor lets her audience both in the stadium and at home that she loves this! Likewise, when you’re on a stage or in a video make it clear you’re happy to be there! Smile, lighten up and enjoy the time. People can feel the energy and will connect with you more.

Break it Up (Don’t Shake It Off)

If you have a long speech or video, break it up (but don’t ‘shake it off’). While Taylor Swift’s concert and film was long–at nearly three hours, they broke it up successfully and it didn’t feel quite so long. It moved at a faster pace because of how she split it into her ‘eras’ and different music periods. Each had corresponding fresh costumes, set design and they used interesting visuals on the monitors. When you have a video or speech, vary the pacing, your speech pattern as well as your energy level and volume.
