How Posting About a Celebrity Event Got My Video Seen 85,000 Times - And Why You Need to Incorporate Pop Culture Moments into Your Social Media Marketing

Every year there are major pop culture, red carpet and sports moments - events so big everyone is talking about them.

And YOU need to talk about those moments on your social media feed! In the world of social media marketing, staying relevant, being fresh and getting discovered is key!

The Met Gala is just one of those moments. The Met Gala is a huge fashion night - a big event hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and is thrown by Vogue Head Anna Wintour. It’s full of A-LIST stars and style!

You may think “I’m a real estate agent” or “I’m a wellness coach” or “I’m a financial consultant” — this has nothing to do with fashion… but that’s the point!

Varying your content is key and jumping into current events (especially non political ones!) is a great angle to grab people’s attention! It’s a great tactic to include in your video marketing and social media planning and production!

You can show off different sides of yourself and your business.

It’s also a great way to get discovered by new people.

I covered the Met Gala personally during my years as a TV producer covering both news and red carpets. I worked in news for over a decade so I really now how to make timely content work!

So my social video is below, it’s a ‘behind the scenes of the Met Gala.’

HOW YOU CAN MAKE SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT RELATED TO THE METGALA

—Identify ‘that moment’ that everyone is talking about. Think the Rihanna pregnancy reveal, the Moonlight Oscar mixup, the Super Bowl winner

—Once you have “the moment” - put your own spin on it - your spin can be your take on it, a funny joke about it. If you have any personal connection to it — add that in!

—Add the right hashtags - make sure to add the appropriate hashtags so your content can be found (For this it would be #metgala2023 and #metgala and any other celebrities you mention)

—Be timely! Basically keep it short and simple. It doesn’t need to be PERFECT! The key is getting it posted within hours of the event (not 18 hours later!

HOW DO YOU FILM IT?

There are a lot of ways but here are a few ideas to get you started:

GREEN SCREEN - You can film yourself talking and put some Met Gala footage behind you

TEXT OVER FOOTAGE - You can place text of your point of view OVER Met Galafootage

YOU TALKING TO CAMERA REFERRING TO THE CONTENT - offer your unique POV ...

And guess what happened after I posted a video about the Met Gala?

I GOT 85,000 VIEWS ON MY MET GALA REEL....(see below) ... after following my own advice.

  • I had 85k views

  • 2,800% boost in engagement
